Tudor's Biscuit World
Home of the Original Biscuit Sandwich
Who invented the biscuit sandwich?
Arguably, we did, the folks at Tudor's Biscuit World.
The idea behind our tasty breakfast specialty was the result of those family trips into West Virginia from Greensboro, NC along old Route 52N in the late 1950's. Our family, the Tudor's, always stopped at a quaint "mom and pop" shop somewhere near Mt. Airy to feast on their humongous country ham biscuits.
In 1975, William Tudor, the founder of Tudor's Biscuit World, took this idea and ran with it. As the manager of Pizzaville in Greensboro, NC, and always the "idea guy," Bill Tudor suggested that Pizzaville could double their sales if only they would sell biscuit sandwiches in the morning. That they did, and Biscuitville was born. Just ask Maurice!
Rather than make someone else rich off of his idea, Bill and his wife Mae went back to their roots in Charleston, WV, and opened the first Tudor's biscuit world in 1980. Some fifty stores in four states later, the secret is out.
Don't believe it? Come by 23 West Church Ave in Downtown Roanoke, where we've been in business since 1985, and see for yourself. For a first hand account of the story behind it all, just ask Louis. As his regulars will tell you, he can often be found behind the counter, putting in your order before you ever open your mouth.
