Doreen Sidor has a passion for cooking; always has. Her training has included the Culinary School of California, among others. As a lifelong traveler who has enjoyed cuisine of all sorts, her love of food comes naturally to her.



In her words, when she was growing up in upstate New York, “The party was always at our house.” In some respects, it still is. Only now “her house” is DOREEN’S GOURMET, a new café located on Brambleton Avenue at Brambleton Plaza.

Doreen Sidor moved to Roanoke with her family in 1996 and it’s here that she decided to take her love for cooking to the public, first at Belpasto with cooking demonstrations, meals to go, and her now-famous soup mixes. Unfortunately Belpasto, a wine and cheese shop, didn’t last very long.

Next came cooking demonstrations in the Twist & Turns kitchen downtown, where she held forth for nearly a year; until the City decided to pull the plug on her efforts due to Fire Marshall concerns --- Twist & Turns is in the historic Shenandoah Hotel, which also houses actors upstairs for Mill Mountain Theater.

When Doreen saw an opportunity to take over a coffee shop she jumped at it. Now firmly in control of her destiny, she serves breakfasts and lunches and dinners as well; and her shop is chock-full of wines, beers, deli items, freshly baked goods, and sandwiches to order.
